39. Emma Frost (Black Delegation) - Racial Draft Season 2

Emma Frost’s new “blackstory” -- as per Randy Smith -- is as follows:

EMMA FROST, THE WHITE QUEEN:

Strong willed, sharp witted socialite Emma Frost burst onto the high society scene seemingly out of nowhere. Who was this charming Black woman whose beauty was so stunning, who had such discriminating taste in leisure and luxury, who was just so well-spoken, and whose strategic prowess could not be denied?

No one would ever guess that she started out in life as Emma Franklin, whose librarian mother and plumber father feared their kids would never get much further in life than their home neighborhood.

So many in Emma’s community feared mutants, saw them as monsters. Yet when her father learned she could read minds and sway thoughts in a more favorable direction, all he saw was dollar signs. And he made sure to let his daughter Emma know it. She always had smarts, but when she fell short for, say, a crucial test, maybe she could pick the teacher’s brain, for a little hand-up. And of course, her work ethic was never a problem, but when time came to seek internships or job promotions, or rub elbows with the illustrious and secretive Hellfire Club…a mental ‘nudge’ in the right direction never hurt.

By the time she met the X-Men, Emma Franklin had now changed her surname to Frost, to suit not only her luxurious new diamond-studded lifestyle, but her iced-out newfound secondary mutation. For years, the mutant heroes’ pursuit of harmony with humans just didn’t sit right with Emma. And too often, they interfered in her plans to make money moves. Though, over time, she had to admit, the way they operated wasn’t as bad as she first thought. They helped her see that she had more than just an uncompromising business mind; she had a fiercely loyal and nurturing heart toward her fellow mutants.

Eventually, circumstances would make her put differences aside and aid the X-Men. Their first alliance was reluctant, yet Emma Frost soon proved herself invaluable, for her firm hand with young students and her unrelenting strategic talent for taking enemies to school.
